Jnr Spragga

Jnr Spragga, born Nyasha Emanuel Dedza in the vibrant cultural hotbed of Chitungwiza, stands as one of the most explosive, dynamic, and musically gifted forces in modern Zimdancehall and African trap-dancehall. Revered across Zimbabwe and throughout the Southern African diaspora as 'The Conquering Prince' and 'Madikiwani', Jnr Spragga has emerged as the definitive game-changer of contemporary Zimbabwean urban youth culture. Blending raw township grit, lightning-fast lyrical delivery, infectious melodies, and authentic street philosophy, he has bridged the golden era of classic Zimdancehall riddims with the futuristic bounce of international trap-dancehall, creating an unmistakable sonic footprint that commands millions of digital streams and packs stadium concerts.

Growing up in Chitungwiza — the storied dormitory city that previously birthed and nurtured titans like Alick Macheso, Mechanic Manyeruke, System Tazvida, and countless dancehall icons — young Nyasha was immersed from childhood in an environment where musical expression was a vital response to socio-economic struggle. Captivated by Jamaican dancehall, hip-hop, and local riddim culture, he began penning verses and freestyling in neighbourhood sessions between 2010 and 2012. Adopting the moniker 'Jnr Spragga' in homage to legendary Jamaican dancehall veteran Spragga Benz, he set out to build a distinctive persona marked by lyrical dexterity, razor-sharp cadence, and fearless stage presence.

His formative years in the music trenches saw him absorb direct mentorship and creative inspiration from the late Zimdancehall monarch Soul Jah Love (Chibhodhora). Deeply influenced and personally endorsed by Soul Jah Love, Jnr Spragga spent over a decade honing his craft in underground studios across Chitungwiza, Harare, and beyond. He refused to compromise on lyrical content, channeling the authentic everyday joys, hustles, heartbreak, and aspirations of ordinary high-density township youth. That patient apprenticeship forged an artist with rare endurance, acute musical discipline, and an uncanny ability to connect emotionally with grassroots listeners.

Jnr Spragga's seismic nationwide ascent gained unstoppable momentum at the 2024 National Cup Clash, Zimbabwe's premier live dancehall proving ground held annually at the City Sports Centre. Facing off against veteran performers and heavyweight contenders before a notoriously demanding crowd, Spragga delivered a powerhouse performance that earned him runner-up honours and instant superstar status. The electrifying showcase proved beyond doubt that a new prince had arrived to claim the mantle of Zimbabwean dancehall leadership.

Following his Cup Clash triumph, Jnr Spragga unleashed a breathtaking run of chart-topping anthems that dominated radio airwaves, street kombis, digital playlists, and viral TikTok trends. His monumental anthem 'MaRulez' became a nationwide anthem of self-assertion, discipline, and street wisdom, racking up over 8.5 million views. He followed this with the explosive monster single 'DAKA', produced by Nicky Genius with an iconic Boss Director music video, which accumulated millions of streams within weeks and cemented his reputation as the most in-demand hitmaker in the country. Singles like 'Ndokudai NeMoyo', 'Twerka', 'Chitungwiza', and 'Mhuka Huru' showcased his versatile vocal range, effortlessly moving between high-energy dancehall bangers and deeply touching romantic ballads.

Beyond his solo triumphs, Jnr Spragga has established himself as the creative President of the Dareguru Movement and the visionary behind the global 'Watchaaa Stylaaa' lifestyle brand. His work with top-tier producers like Nicky Genius, Shetto Natural Intelligence, Jamal No Limits, and Money Cure has redefined production benchmarks for Zimbabwean urban music. He has also championed landmark collaborative projects, joining forces with Zimdancehall heavyweight Enzo Ishall on the explosive 'Disaster (Remix)', Nisha Ts on 'Padare Guru' (from her acclaimed album Tsigamugobo) and 'Zvakufaya', Delroy Shewe on 'Pandotadza Ndepapi', and other prominent urban stars.

In early 2026, Jnr Spragga delivered an unforgettable, critically acclaimed live mash-up performance at the 24th Edition of the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA), solidifying his transition from a street-level phenomenon to an institutional pillar of Zimbabwean performing arts. His stagecraft, accompanied by world-class visual aesthetics and energetic choreography, demonstrated that modern Zimdancehall has fully matured into an internationally competitive, professional industry capable of commanding premier cultural platforms across the globe.

Today, Jnr Spragga stands proudly and deservedly enshrined on the Zimbabwe Digital Wall of Fame as a true ZimLegend. As 'The Conquering Prince' who rose from the dusty streets of Chitungwiza to carry the torch of Zimbabwean dancehall onto the world stage, Nyasha Emanuel Dedza represents the resilient, innovative, and triumphant spirit of Zimbabwe's youth. His unforgettable catalog — 'DAKA', 'MaRulez', 'Ndokudai NeMoyo', and 'Chitungwiza' — will forever resonate down memory lane with us, lest we forget.
